About the Coachman's Inn

When the Coachman’s Inn opened in 1954, its superb location, architectural charm and attentive staff quickly made it a favorite with visitors to Carmel-by-the-Sea, many of whom became regular, repeat guests. Among these were Dr. Gordon Steuck and his wife, Sandy. In June of 1985, the Coachman’s Inn’s owners decided to sell. Because they had enjoyed so many happy getaways to the property, the Steucks jumped at the chance to buy it. They also hired Karen Redmon to help them manage Coachman’s Inn, the beginning of a long-term relationship: Karen has now been the manager for 18 years.

Under the Steuck’s careful stewardship, the Coachman’s Inn continued to thrive, and received the updating and ongoing maintenance it needed. The inn has undergone three major renovations since the early 1990s, the most recent in 2010.

In June, 2014, the Coachman’s Inn joined the Four Sisters Inns collection. Headquartered on the Monterey Peninsula since its beginnings in 1975, Four Sisters Inns has strong roots in the local community, with two other inns in the area and employees who know and love the Coachman’s Inn. Though no longer involved in day-to-day operations, the Steucks continue to own Coachman’s Inn, and Karen continues as manager.

Four Sisters Inns continues to update Coachman's Inn with special touches, including new bedding, new carpet, new robes and the hotel will be undergoing a renovation to include a breakfast room and new kitchen so that ultimately guests can enjoy a full breakfast and wine and hors d'oeuvres at Coachman's that they've come to expect from Four Sisters Inns.
